Who is Paul
TAP Films the (ART of Paul) is the personal portfolio of Paul Michael Charles, a director and director of photography whose work is shaped by a considered, image-led approach to storytelling.
Paul’s practice sits between narrative, fashion, documentary, and commercial film, with a focus on atmosphere, pacing, and emotional restraint. His visual language favours deliberate movement, composition, and duration, allowing scenes to breathe rather than forcing impact.
Working internationally, Paul has shot across Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, bringing the same cinematic discipline to fashion films, documentaries, and broadcast projects. His work has ranged from television series filmed in the Maldives and Malaysia to long-form documentary projects across the African continent.
This approach has led to collaborations with international brands including NEXT UK, H&M, Yardley London, and AURATE New York, as well as commercial campaigns for local brands such as Ackermans, Spree, Tanqueray, and Origin. In long-form storytelling, Paul was the Director of Photography on Model, a ten-part series currently streaming on Netflix, which he also co-wrote and produced.
This site is not a studio profile or collective. It is a curated record of work shaped by a singular perspective, films built through observation, rhythm, and a commitment to visual clarity.
